Issue 13: September 2021
Small Changes, Big Change.
We take a look at the small changes you can make that might well make a big change for our children’s future. Also, toy reviews, play ideas and some delicious mood-boosting recipes. PLUS this bumper September issue has an extra section all about gender equality at school, with interviews, tips for dealing with peer pressure and ways to talk to your school about equality.
Sonshine is written and edited by Hayley Grove and Kirstie Beaven; writers, feminists and parents of boys. They met after having their first children, but really bonded over the year of hell that came with two children under three, numerous house moves and what seemed like a never-ending winter. Sonshine fills the gap that they have found while trying to teach the boys that they and their peers (boys and girls) are equal; different and equal.
Hayley and Kirstie created Sonshine Magazine to explore the challenges and the joys that come with raising kind, thoughtful and empathetic (as well as loud, boisterous and hilarious) boys.
We haven’t got a recipe for this but we hope that creating a change in the way we view boyhood, we can begin to change the way they will experience manhood.
